Council Makes Inroads With Chinese Livestock Industry

Staff based in the U.S. Grains & BioProducts Council’s (USGBC) office in China recently participated in the 14th Leman China Swine Conference and World Swine Industry Expo in Changsha to deepen their understanding of China’s changing swine industry dynamics and strengthen connections with end-users.

The Leman China Swine Conference is one of the world’s most influential professional events in the swine industry, bringing together leading scientists, producers, feed companies and policymakers to share science-driven solutions for sustainable swine production.

“Popular topics at this year’s event included animal health, feed efficiency, biosecurity, precision nutrition and market adaptation strategies amid China’s ongoing hog price decline,” said Linda Li, USGBC senior program coordinator.

Li and USGBC Marketing Specialist Xiaoming Wang actively engaged in technical sessions to gain insights into how producers are coping with profitability challenges through feed reformulation, use of alternative ingredients and improved management practices.

The team also visited the event’s exhibition area to hold meetings with major industry players including Twins Group, Muyuan Group and Charoen Pokphand Group (CP Group).

The meetings provided valuable exchanges on market supply-demand trends, feed formulation innovations and the evolving role of grain-based ingredients in swine diets, identifying points of mutually beneficial cooperation to meet Chinese feed grain needs with U.S. products.

“With China’s pork industry facing sustained downward price pressure, participation in the conference gave us a better understand of how producers and feed enterprises are adapting production and nutrition strategies to maintain efficiency while reducing costs,” Li said.

“The conversations had here will help guide the Council’s future livestock programming, ensuring U.S. grains continue to serve as reliable, high-value inputs for China’s modern feed industry.”
